Illustration Friday - Summer
When I think of summer, I often think of the beach. I drew this based on a photo I took while vacationing around Kitty Hawk, NC. The little girl was about six or seven and as you can see was cautiously sizing up those incoming waves on what I remember as a beautiful summers day. This was done with colored pencil on Stonehenge paper, 9x12".

Lord.. good use of colored pencil. That looks like a painting. Nice, thank you
Lovely. She looks sweet, and the waves are amazing!
really lovely - the atmosphere of the scene is excellent
Water is such a daunting subject to draw. You did it masterfully.
I really like the waves.
It looks like pastels. How do you get the colored pencils to look so soft and velvety?
Wonderful illustration. Like the others have said: great water. But I really like is the expressive pose of the little girl.
Also, Stonehedge is my favorite paper!
You've really captured her tentative pose perfectly! Great work :)
Thanks for your last note:). I love this picture because it reminds me so much of my youth. That moment captured is one I remember so clearly. Standing on the edge of the shore, watching the waves crashing and wanting to go in..but just being mesmerized. Excellent for summer
I love this experience of the surf--I can almost feel a light spray of droplets and I can hear the rush of the water.
